On the 1st of each month, the prompt for that month’s issue will be released here as well as via an announcement on the Instagram page @thecafeesociety. This will be established through a short article describing the inspiration for the prompt as well as what we’d like you to consider. The prompts are intentionally open to interpretation so don’t be scared to drop us a DM with any questions!
Submissions are open immediately after the prompt is released and you’ll have until five days before the end of the respective month. The submission dates will always be made clear in our posts and they will close at midnight. On the final day of the month we will publish all submissions!
We accept absolutely anything the prompt encourages you to produce – in fact, the stranger the better. Articles, essays, paintings, diary entries, shopping lists, poems, videos, sketches, photographs, stories, scraps of prose, love letters, etc.
Your creation should be sent to our email address: thecafesociety3@gmail.com before the deadline. Submissions should use the following format for the email subject line: Submission Prompt, Genre (essay/poetry etc.), ‘The Title of Your Work’ e.g. Reckoning Day, Poetry, ‘Apocalypse’
In this email, please include your name, age and location. You are welcome to include a short description of yourself as well as relevant social media handles! Anonymous submissions should include a pseudonym. Written work should be attached via Word document and be edited and formatted as you would like it to be published.
All work should be original and unpublished. By submitting, you are pledging you have all rights to all elements of your work.
Most of all, allow yourself to float along the river of your own creativity and interpret the prompt however you see fit. Do your own research on the topic, delve deep and again, don’t be afraid to DM with any questions. We look forward to indulging ourselves in your artwork!
