May Issue: Reckoning Day

Man Before God

does god know
that you killed a child in her name
and waged holy war?
did you beg to be forgiven
for the greed of your soul
and the death of your heart?

and did your knees crumble
when you hit the ground
with your hands to the sky?
after you stood above a martyr
and reached to steal the thorns
crowning yourself to pride

declaring yourself to be rightful
while your hands rest on your sword
and your thirsty eyes are framed
screaming in agony
as long as the blood is yours
and not of the innocence you face

will you ask for forgiveness
once again
when it all comes to end?
crying to god
that your actions
did not represent what you truly meant

what will you do
when you're punished
for all your conscious lies?
will you stand strong
firm in the power you stole
and your everlasting mind?

will you crumble when god convicts you
for setting fire to her creation
her hands holding the flame
ruling that you
should receive
just what you gave

will you acknowledge
the evil you bore
and the pain you caused?
or will you continue
to argue
like man before god
